The 2018 Annual Meeting of Provincial Grand Lodge of Surrey.
The Annual Meeting of Provincial Grand Lodge took place on the 27th June 2018 in the Grand Temple of Freemasons’ Hall in London. The meeting was presided over by our Provincial Grand Master, RW.Bro. Ian M Chandler.
A team of willing volunteers gathered at Oakfield Road early that morning to load all the regalia and documentation onto the coach to take them to Great Queen Street.
After unloading the coach, everyone set about preparing the changing rooms and the Temple for the arrival of the Brethren, as well as setting up the photo studio in Temple 10.
From 1.30pm the Brethren of the Province and their guests started gathering in the Grand Temple. Just after 2.15pm the Brethren were called to order to receive the distinguished guests, including members of the Provincial Executive from neighbouring Provinces resplendent in their chains of office; senior members of the Royal Arch Province of Surrey and Heads of other Masonic Orders in Surrey.
Finally, the Brethren were called to order by W.Bro. Kevin Stone, the Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies, to receive the Provincial Officers of the year accompanying the RW Provincial Grand Master, Ian Chandler, led by the Provincial Grand Sword Bearer and followed by the Provincial Grand Standard Bearers.
Provincial Grand Lodge was opened in due form by the Provincial Grand Master who was saluted with seven. The names of the Brethren who have passed to the Grand Lodge Above were read by the Provincial Grand Secretary.
The Provincial Grand Master then called upon the Provincial Grand Chaplain for prayer.
The Provincial Grand Master welcomed the many representatives of other Provinces and Masonic Orders. He also welcomed Master Masons and Installed Masters of Surrey Lodges to the Annual Meeting.
During the Meeting the RW Provincial Grand Master was very pleased to re-appoint W.Bro. Richard Wileman as Deputy Provincial Grand Master.
He was also pleased to re-appoint W.Bros. Steve Jarvis, Bill Caughie, Mike Harding and Nick Gras as Assistant Provincial Grand Masters.
He thanked W.Bros. Trevor Rains and Nick Parsons for their support for the Province during their term of office as Assistant Provincial Grand Masters.
The RW Provincial Grand Master announced that he had very much pleasure in appointing W.Bro. Robert Dobbie and W.Bro. Paul Crockett as Assistant Provincial Grand Masters.
The Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies formed a deputation to escort and introduce the Assistant Provincial Grand Masters Designate in proper form.
After the Patents were read by the Provincial Grand Secretary the Provincial Grand Master enquired if they can conscientiously undertake the duties of the Office.
After taking their Obligation they were escorted to the Provincial Grand Master to be invested with their chain of office. Brethren of Surrey, below the rank of Assistant Provincial Grand Master were called to order and the newly appointed Assistant Provincial Grand Masters were saluted.
A total of 377 appointments and promotions in Provincial Grand Rank were announced, the recipients mounting the dais to be congratulated by the RW Provincial Grand Master.
He then made special appointments in Provincial Grand Rank to W.Bros. Richard Knox, David Hall and Steve Guzy. The Brethren of the Province of Surrey below the rank of Provincial Grand Officer were called to Order.
The newly appointed and promoted Provincial Grand Officers were saluted under the direction of the Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies.
After nominating his Official Visitors for the year the RW Provincial Grand Master thanked them for their service and said how much the Province appreciates their efforts.
The RW Provincial Grand Master then presented Gold Award Certificates to Agincourt Lodge No 7172, Cyclist Lodge No 2246 and Look Forward Lodge No 9305 who have made sufficient contributions in support of the 2019 Festival for the RMBI since our last Annual Meeting.
The RW Provincial Grand Master then addressed Provincial Grand Lodge. During his address the RW Provincial Grand Master paid tribute to W.Bro. Bruce Perry and had much pleasure in presenting Bruce with a Certificate of Distinguished Service
Provincial Grand Lodge was closed in due form. The RW Provincial Grand Master accompanied by distinguished guests and Provincial Officers left the temple in procession to the echoing strains of a recessional fanfare by the Organist W.Bro. Carl Jackson.
Following the meeting the Provincial Grand Master and the Deputy Provincial Grand Master received their guests in the Drawing Room within the Grand Connaught Rooms.
The Brethren of Surrey and their guests then dined in peace and harmony in the Grand Connaught Rooms where the customary Loyal and Masonic toasts were honoured.
