Another Pegasus Bed for The Children’s Trust, Tadworth.

The journey began when Bill Baker left a significant amount of money to Banstead Lodge with the instruction that it was to be spent on Charity as decided by the Lodge members.

Bill had been a respected member of both Banstead Lodge and Chapter for many years and known for his generosity to charity.

Initially it was agreed to donate roughly half the money to a variety of charities and then allocate the remainder to be donated over a ten year period to charities decided by the various Masters and Brethren.

The seed for the Pegasus Bed donation was sown when Mark Watkins, the Royal Arch Provincial Grand Charity Steward, visited Banstead Chapter in his role as Official Visitor and informed the Companions about the positive effect of the bed recently donated by the Province and the proposal to provide a second.

It was put to the Lodge members and they approved the motion that the initial plans be changed to provide the funds for purchase of the second bed in memory of Bill.

The Children’s Trust is part of our local community and the money was sitting in the bank account doing nothing. Present at the handover of the Pegasus Bed was the Lodge and Chapter Charity Steward, Tyrone Pearce; the Lodge Treasurer, Ray Jenkins, and the Chapter M.E.Z. Bill Cassidy.

There to receive the Bed was Karen Phillips, Community Fundraising Manager, and Richard Fauvet, Transport Manager of the Children’s Trust.

Tyrone was especially pleased to be there as he was a close friend of Bill Baker. He is shown here holding a special plaque that will be fixed to the Bed with the inscription ‘Kindly donated by the Freemasons of Banstead Lodge in memory of William (Bill) Baker, a valued member of the Banstead Lodge for many years’.

After the handover we were invited outside to look over one of the specially adapted vehicles.

Richard Fauvet, Transport Manager, showed us how easy it was to wheel the bed onto the vehicle and fix it in position. The two beds donated by Surrey Freemasons have made a considerable difference to children at Tadworth enabling them to go on outings with the other children as well as providing transport to hospital appointments.
