Provincial Grand Officers Mess 2019

Provincial Grand Officers Mess 2019

The inaugural meeting of the Surrey Provincial Grand Officers’ Mess which was held on Wednesday 6th November at the Surbiton Masonic Hall has been hailed a great success.

As part of the wider Provincial Membership Challenge a need was identified by W.Bro Robbie Dobbie to give Provincial Craft and Holy Royal Arch Grand Officers a forum in which to meet like-minded members of the Province in convivial circumstances while enjoying the opportunity to engage informally with the Provincial Grand Master and the Executive encouraging a two-way flow of information.

With our own interpretation of the 3’R’s there was to be no Regalia, Ritual or Raffles. This proved to be extremely popular with the 100 plus members attending who enjoyed a delicious five-course banquet. What a fantastic night it was!

“……we had a most enjoyable meeting and both look forward to the next event…..”

“……thank you for a very enjoyable evening last night…..”

“…..a great night; met brethren from all over the Province…..”

“……can’t wait for the next one!…..”

These were only a few of the many comments received from those who attended.

As President of the Mess, the Provincial Grand Master Ian Chandler, welcomed those present and expressed his pleasure at the formation of the Mess as there had been a void where Provincial Grand Officers had no similar vehicle to the Grand Officers’ Mess or the Foundation Club with which to enhance their sense of belonging to the Province to compliment their Lodge membership.

He suggested that as it develops and grows, the ‘club’ could meet in various venues including on occasion Freemasons Hall, Great Queen Street.

It is intended that at each meeting of the Mess to have a guest after-dinner speaker. On this occasion the members were treated to a brief talk by W.Bro Colin Downey who gave an interesting and amusing talk of his time as a professional referee with the English Football League. W.Bro Bill Caughie’s note of thanks was equally entertaining.

At the conclusion of the evening, the members departed with huge smiles on their faces, having enjoyed good company and good food with many having met friends not seen for a long time.

The fantastic photographs of the evening which have appeared on the Surrey Risings facebook page, and also with this article were taken by W.Bro Colin Pizey and perfectly capture the atmosphere of the evening.

It is intended to hold two meetings of the Mess per year. A date for the next Mess has not yet been agreed but it is likely to be in about six months time.

Details will be released as soon as a date has been confirmed to enable timely bookings to be made. Such has been the interest and take up thus far it is anticipated that the next meeting could be over-subscribed, therefore early responses are advised when the date is announced.

If you are not already a member of the Mess and are considering joining, enquiries can be made by e-mailing me at provgomess@gmail.com
